Option 1:
Ok it has been awhile since I have been on here. Anyways I might be able to get a 30 gallon and I would like to go with some africans or some shell dwellers. What would be a nice set up for a tank for my wife.

Option 2: Labidochromis caeruleus probably in the area of 3-5 in a bigger tank. Or maybe keep them in the 30 gallon as a holding tank until the get bigger.

sounds like a nice opportunity for some multis?

they are colorful and fun shell dweelers that live in coloies. you could get arround ten i think in a thirty gallon tank or more depending upon the footprint of the tank. you will need lots of shells and we need water specs of your tap water to see what needs to be adjusted to make sure they will be ok in there... i havent kept them, but have heard great things about them!!!!!!!

If I were to go with the multi's should i go with a species only tank or maybe a center piece fish for that one. My wife really likes the labs and I could house them in th 30 for awhile. Oh dear decisions decisions.

sounds cool, yeah id go with a center piece and some shellies,as stated above, make sure to have plenty of shells for them to choose from, like 2-4 shells per fish, that way all of em can find a shell that suits them,im not really guna suggest a center piece, but theres heaps you could have!but in a 30 gal,you mite be looking at a up grade later on if the center piece(fish)gets to big,and also make sure its a african, not american!so keep that in mind when choosing and just make sure it can look after it self,in case any spawning takes place...so its able to defend it self..hope this helps, should look pretty good when its up and running

ps,i know what you mean with the lack of replys, happens to me too,its even more annoying when you need info in a hurryso heres 1 reply for ya mate

3-5 yellow labs in a 30 gallon long (36" long) would work fine for the long term.

If you go with multies, I'd suggest multis and a pair of A. compressiceps or A. calvus. They'll help with the fry population. Or, you could get multis and julies (dickfeldi, ornatus or transcriptus would be best because they're smaller. If you go with tanganyikan shellies (the multies) and rock dwellers (calvus, comps or julies), one half the tank should be sand with 2-4 shells per shellie and the other half should be rocky.

Thank you guys. Well I just might end up doing both ideas. I think any ways. My wife really wants the labs and I really want the Multis. I might have to bust out a new 55 gallon under my current Apisto tank. and then use the 30gallon for the shell dwellers. Now if i can get some multis from my friends tank.
