Im setting up a fish room(still in progress) and i want to know what would be an easy way to breed them and to clean the tanks? ![]() also my ideas were for a setup for some of the nice looking babies were to have pool filter sand with some grey rocks that i have and some fake plants to mimic the natural habitat... ![]() cuz the trio that are in the tank now already have ick...which i believe is because they dont have enough hiding places...they will be placed into a hospital tank tommarrow(ran out of time today) and then placed into a breeding setup away from humans to calm down a bit and relax. o and does the cichlids lovers (ary everyone else i need direct help from the cichlid raisers) have any ideas of some dither fish? i thought about congo tetras or giant danios but then i saw yellow labs and thought they would be better...any other ideas ( i really want the yellow labs... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Im currently breeding peacocks (not by choice!!) and i found having them in a tank by themselves works well as for items in the tank i only have a couple of pieces of dw and that seems to work and im pretty sure rocks would be more than suitable. how many depends on you really though hiding spots help them to be less stressed.. the more females to males the better. i had 3 f to 1 m but unfortunately 1 died.. cleaning.. i just do this as normal..my fry are in breeding nets in the tank... sexing fish is sometimes difficult and i took that approach of lighter colour/no colour when i bought adult labs... they both turned out to be males the one i thought was female was 'pretending'. there was a site on how to sex them but i cant remember it.. maybe someone else can help here? hope this helps! |

Like liquid rock, and ph of around 8.0-9.0 will do fine. It is best to use a substrate like Aragonite, or crushed coral, as the calcium will leach into the water and help to buffer the ph and hardness where you need it to be. As for breeding, these are mouth brooders. Not difficult at all. As for dither fish, most anything they cannot catch, and what will not attack a female with a mouth full of eggs, are fine. As for sexing the Yellow Labs, this is very difficult these days. As the majority of females also have black anal fins (the old way to distinguish the sexes). And about the only way to tell these days, is that the dominant male will usually be the most colorful, and the females will eventually be holding eggs. There is always a bigger fish... |
