I was looking to pick up a pair of Rams for my 25 Gallon tank.

I don't put anything in this tank without being quarantined first. My quarantine tank though is a 2 Gallon Hex. I have been stocking the 25 buy buying 2 or 3 tetras or cories at a time and quarantining them for 3-4 weeks. This has slowly built up the schools in the main tank.

Now my questions are this:
1. Is a 2 gallon tank enough to quarantine 2 rams at the same time?
2. If not 2 how about 1?
3. If I can get away using the 2 gallon as a quarantine tank would a German or a Bolivian be better suited? (I know Bolivians are hardier and may be able to handle the small water volume better.)

I am willing to do daily water changes to keep the water quality good. Also the 2 gallon tank has been set up for several years and is completely cycled.

Two gallons is even pushing it for one ram i think, i would even just go with a 5 gallon container that is heated and aerated. In terms of which species to go with I would go with the German Blue Rams because they are much smaller, and if you do use the 2 gallon the Bolvion wont fit.

Thanks Fish Guy,

I would just be afraid that since these fish are sensitive to water quality that having a 5 gallon tank that is cycling would be worse than using a smaller well established tank.

If I buy one German at a time would it be better to try and get a male or female first. Ultimately I would like one of each.

Thanks for the help.

Well you can use the water that is in your existing tank now if you would like. But if you use the 2 gallon that is already cycled it would be best to just buy one at a time. Also try to get a female first just so the male isn't aggressive with her if his there first.
