Those of you who remember my previous thread about my salvini will recall that I was trying to figure out if she was male or female. As my luck would have it, she is ready to breed and the Texas and Convict in my tank were fighting for her attention. She happened to like the Texas better and they are breeding aggressively. They have driven my convict to one corner of the tank and the jewel to the other and are constantly biting and chasing each other and getting ready to breed. The convict and Texas are fighting and both have torn fins, what do I do???

I would take the female out. I dont personally like to see fish that are mutts.... I think it is our duty as fish keepers to try as best we can to keep species true to what they should be.

Before you criticize someone walk a mile in their shoes. That way you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

I would have to agree, but the salvini is such a beautiful fish that my husband is considering giving away the Texas. On the other hand, I know its only a matter of time when the salvini decides to breed with the convict. I was hoping the salvini would be male, but its not

Heck yeah!

As for the fish breeding... Are they close enough to make it actually work?

Ofcourse, they are close enough. They are in the same tank and very lovey dovey. They roam the tank together and chase everybody that dares to come in their way. Until I can find a good home for my pwetty Salvini girl, the tank lights are going to stay off to keep the aggression under control. Now they are chasing my female Jewel, raphael cats and feather fins all over the place, and the Texas is on one big digging expedition

have you considered a divider, home made dividers are cost effective and are invaluble to the fish keeper i rekon,i have like 9 dividers in all different sizes, they have saved my bacon more times than i can count,i find they dont always solve a aggresion problem, but its a FAST solution that can be errected in a couple of mins,

Now that you mention it, I think I should get me one. But then on the other hand this is not a long term solution. I looked at the LFS fish tanks and just did not want to give the Salvini away. It would mean death for her for sure, so while I am looking for a good home to place her in to, I might as well get me a divider to protect the Convict.

Surprisingly, the convict is able to fight back and camouflage himself wen the tank lights are off. The Texas behaves like he cannot see him

yes i would say to get yourself one.for example,i have a jack dempsey and a firemouth that have been at war with each other for a few weeks now, they would have torn each other to bits if i wasnt able to divide them, the firemouth is being relocated this weekend so untill then it keeps them apart, great fish keeper accessory
