If I have a shellie setup with crushed coral substrate but add a piece of driftwood for visual will it mess with the pH?

Tank 4ft. Wood about 12" x 8" x 8" (guesstimate?)

I suspect probably not, especially if you run carbon in the filter. An entirely coral substrate provides a heckuva lot of buffering capacity.

I think the easiest thing, though, is just pre-soak it to remove as many tannins as you can.

Thanks so much tater. Good idea but it was in another tank for a few years already. Shelved it when I had a malawi all rock setup. Have put it back in circulation, over the weekend I did the shellie set up in anticipation of stock.

Once it sinks I think it will look very good.
