It was suggested to me on the weekend that my somewhat ho-hum 55gal would make a nice place for a small shelly colony and 3 or 4 brichardis.

Since I know diddly about this family of fish I thought I'd hand it over to the experts Would you do this? If so, at what stocking level?

Also, do brichardi eat plants? Would anubias be safe? I'm a wee bit bored with sand and rocks and filter fittings.

I have Anubias with my N.brichardi & they are growing quite well. I never see them nibbling at it & the leaves aren't bitten.

I've never had a problem with either Brichardi or any of our species of shellies eating plants - we usually have Java moss in with the Brichardi as extra hidey space for the fry.

When you say you have a 55gal tank this means nothing to me as without the dimensions I can't help advising you on what you could keep in there.

Its a standard 4' tank, it is just under or just over 55USG, I don't remember which. I think it is approximately 48"x14"x20".

I already have 3 (male?) N. multifasciatus in a smaller setup, so however the larger tank is restocked, those 3 would need to be included before other stocking decisions are made.

OK if it was me and I had a spare 4ft for this I'd get a load more Multies and have a giant stack of shells up 1 end for them and have a big barnacle cluster up the other end for a pair of Brichardi to breed in
If you already have 1 type of shelly then I wouldn't advise mixing the species and you should get a few Brichardi and find a pair in the group then get rid of the rest before the pair do.
