Does anyone have a suggestion on a nice small cichlid.
If you have a picture that would be appreciated.

Thanks

Blue Rams, Bolivian Rams, and Apistos are all great, peaceful choices for the smaller tank.

Here are a two pics of my Bolivians-

My favourite would be some of the South American dwarf apistos. I like cacatuiodes, for some extra info on them, have a look at this link
http://www.cichlid-forum.com/articles/apistogramma_cacatuoides.php Another favourite of mine are the Pelvicachromis taeniatus. They are cousins of the krib, but come in many different colour morphs. Here's a link to the Nigerian Red morph. http://cichlidae.com/tank.php?id=253 Here's a shot of my Pelvicachromis taeniatus Nigerian Red male. As the article says, though some males may not be equally pretty. I've seen a plain looking one too.

There are so many nice dwarf SA Apistos & Pelvicachromis taeniatus morphs. Why not surf the net and see what you like, as well as checking out whats available in your area.

Have fun.

I simply adore my blue rams and my apistogrammas. These are tiny cichlids with platy of attitude. There are SO many species of Apistos available I can't eve go into here. I think my current fav is my Apisto. trifasciata.

If by small, I am assuming you mean about 5" or less. If so here is a list of some that won't exceed that and are recommended for 50 gallon tanks or less:

Malawian Cichlids:
~Electric Yellow Cichlid (Labidochromis caeruleus)
~Red Zebra Cichlid (Pseudotropheus zebra)
~Kenyi Cichlid (Pseudotropheus lombardoi)
~Demasoni Cichlid (Pseudotropheus demasoni)
~Blue Johanni Cichlid (Melanochromis johanni)
~Fuelleborni Cichlid, Orange Blossom (Labeotropheus fuelleborni)

Tanganyikan Cichlids: A lot of these could be housed in thirty gallon tanks as they don't exceed 3"
~Orange Leleupi Cichlid (Neolamprologus leleupi)
~Dickfeldi Cichlid (Julidochromis dickfeldi)
~Brevis Cichlid (Neolamprologus brevis)
~Marlieri Cichlid (Julidochromis marlieri)
~Duboisi Cichlid (Tropheus duboisii)
~Calvus Cichlid (Altolamprologus calvus)
~Caudopunctatus Cichlid (Neolamprologus caudopunctatus)
~Cylindricus Cichlid (Neolamprologus cylyndricus)
~Albino Ornatus Cichlid (Julidochromis ornatus)
~Gold Head Compressicep Cichlid (Altolamprologus compressicep)
~Gold Ocellatus Cichlid (Lamprologus ocellatus)
~Jeweled Goby Cichlid (Tanganicodus irsacae)

American & New World Cichlids:
~German Blue Ram (Papilochromis ramirezi)
~Rainbow Cichlid (Herotilapia multispinosa)
~Bolivian Ram (Microgeophagus altispinosa)
~Assorted Apistogramma (Apistogramma sp.)
~Double Full Red Cockatoo Cichlid (Apistogramma cacatuoides)
~Orange Cockatoo Cichlid (Apistogramma cacatuoides)
~Black Stripe Dwarf Cichlid (Taeniacara candidi)
~Panda Dwarf Cichlid (Apistogramma njessini)
~Port Acara (Aequidens portalegrensis)
~Double Full Red Agassizi Cichlid (Apistogramma agassizi)
~German Gold Ram (Papilochromis ramirezi)

Misc. African Cichlids:
~Kribensis Cichlid (Pelvicachromis pulcher)
~Albino Kribensis Cichlid (Pelvicachromis pulcher)
~Buffalo Head Cichlid (Steatocranus casuarius)
~Nanochromis Cichlid (Nannochromis sp.)

Hope that helped

If you're looking for msall AND peaceful, allow me to recommend my two personal favourites (yet again!!!) ... two Cichlids that are, by the usual standards of the Family, out and out pacifists that will cause no trouble whatsoever with respect to such things as wiping out other occupants etc.

First choice - Laetacara curviceps, the Flag cichlid from South America. 3 inches SL, gorgeous in breeding colours, dependable breeder, superb parent, follows the classic monogamous pairing model of CA/SA Cichlids, and canbe relied upon to be a trusty performer.

Second choice - Anomalochromis thomasi, the Dwarf Jewel Fish from West Africa (and consequently will live in the same water as the Flag Cichlid - however, it's quite adaptable and will tolerate moderate hardness and alkalinity). Around 3.5 inches SL, again gorgeous in breeding colours, another dependable breeder, and like the Flag Cichlid above, VASTLY underrated as an ideal Cichlid for the aquarist who is looking for something that will provide a fuss-free introduction to the world of Cichlids.

If you find either of these two species, snap them up. You will not regret doing so if you're looking for a hardy, dependable, attractive yet peaceful Cichlid.

Teleocichla, Taeniacara, and Dicrossus are all great, unique fishes that, IMO, beat out any apisto.

Ok sweet! Thanks for the suggestions, i actually went with some Africans.

I chose two species from Lake Malawi:
A pair of Kenyi, and three Electric Yellows for now.

Thanks again for the help.
