I am setting up a 30G with a Fluval304, I would like a natural set-up with live plants, driftwood and rock to re-create a natural environment. Can someone please offer me some suggestions.
Thanx

Well, now I think I like the Bolivian Rams. Curious to how many would be comfortable in a 30G? Also should I put some schooling fish? What kind and how many? Any help would be great!
Thanx

eyyyyy, Im doing almost the EXACT same thing... only in a smaller tank, Bolivian rams (or also some German blue rams, they are more pretty) would be awsome! and a good schooling fish to go with them is neon (or if you can afford cardinal, but here they are $3.99 each, the neons are only $1.99) as they live in the wild together and look AWSOME together, also some panda corys for the bottom and maybe a school of hatchet fish for the top, would that be ok guys? only 2 schools other than the corys... and driftwood and plants and rocks would looks AMAZING!! good luck

Yeah, I have always had larger tanks(55-120) with bigger fishes, ei: oscars, green terror, red devils, and Jacks. So I was never able to place smaller schooling fish in. With a new baby, my wife will only let me do a smaller tank, because my fish room is now a nursery.HA. I'm looking for a tank with a lot of action and appeal, price isn't too much of a concern...well kinda, hints fresh water instead of marine. But I do want a good bit of color as well as groups that get along well. Thanks for your input..I'll for sure check those out....by the way Rams are from South America..Amazon region?
Thanx

Bolivian rams are from Bolivia, eastern Peru and far western Brazil. I think you could have 4 fish (2 pairs) easily in a 36" long tank (nice size tank - not too large but big enough for some action).

Or, if you want variety, a pair of bolivian rams and one pair of the following: L. curviceps or dorsigera, Keyholes, A. borelli; any of those combos would work with your chosen dither/schooling fish.

Blue/gold/german rams are attractive, but they're a bit delicate in my opinion so I tend to avoid them...

bolivan rams are the "more hardy" of the rams, the german blue is more pretty, but is a bit more ummm, not as hardy, they are a bit like discus,.... IMO, I have 2 bolivians and my freind has 1 bolivian and 2 germen blues and they are fine.... a lot of ppl have diff. experience with them, like angels are "supposed" to be a little more on the delicate side and they were my very first fish and only ever lost 1..... so it really depends IMO but as seening you are NOT new to fish im not to worried about that, cause I am saying that you know how to take care of them... ok well here is a pic of a bolivian rams

and here is a pic of German Blues

I'd go with a pair of German rams, a school of hatchets, a school of rummynose tetras, and some panda cories (or whatever kind of cory you like). That would make a great tank. The more plants the better./:'
