I recently bought 4 Kribs, I only want a pair, but they were too young to sex accurately so I agreed with the LFS that I could buy 4, wait for a couple to pair off, and then return the other 2. My question is, at what size/age should their sex become apparent? They are all about 1 inch long currently and I can't really discern any difference in any of them. I'm looking for the differences in fins, but if I was to say now, I would say that I've managed to get 4 females (which would be just my luck to only end up with one sex!). However, I've been back to the LFS to look at the remaining fish they have to see if any of them look any different and they all look the same. So either the store has an entire tank of females or they are still too young to tell the difference. Any tips on when I should be able to tell or should it be apparent from early on and I have managed to pick a tank full of females?

Does anyone have any other tips to sex Kribs other than their fins (or waiting for a pair to breed)?

males usually start showing their "stuff" about 1 1/2 inches. They will have longer and pointed anal and dorsal fins. Where as the females will have more rounded anal and doarsal fins. These will be the first signs. As the females mature, they will get the colorful bellies. Depending on which krib you have gotten, the colors will vary.
