Yippee, I have wrigglers, but I don't quite know how to get the food to them. I have some "Small Fry" liquid food for baby fish, but I don't really know how to get it to them.

Wish mummy fish were like birds, who take the food to their chicks.

I have a syringe, one of those that is used for accurately measuring baby medicines, but it's not very long (only 4.5inches) so that won't reach down far enough. Because I've been hoping for this, I have been looking around for a longer one - without success.

I think the mum will just move her wrigglers on elsewhere, if I stick my hand in the tank. So, how have any of you got the food to the wrigglers. Any suggestions or telling of your success stories, would be appreciated.

I hope some, at least make it.

Cheers

Try hatching some baby brineshrimp.

Then get a long thin tube (preferably rigid) suck the shrimp up into it, place your thumb over the top end then point it at the fry and let go and they should fall out into place.

Also i've seen on ebay some brineshrimp hatchers that let the brineshrimp into the tank as they hatch, maybe you could try getting one of those and positioning it near the breeding sight.

Turkey basters work well for this.

Thanks bonny & Big E.

As with all my shots, the picture quality is poor. But look at the white blotches on the wood - those are my wrigglers (unfortunately, she only has 5) with mum hovering proudly nearby.

With only 5 fry it's highly unlikely that any of them will survice, however that shouldn't stop you from trying

It should give you good practice at feeding the fry and in hatching BBS etc.

So far, she is managing to protect the fry & I'm taking the easy way. I have frozen BBS & feeding with that is going well. All 5 are still present & accounted for.

If they don't make it this time, they can always try again. I've only had the pair a month & they are juveniles, so I hope this is the first of many attempts.

Well if you've only had them a month then you've done really well

Are they taking the frozen BBS?

I think so, but it's hard to say. There is not always clear view of the babies.

Their first batch of eggs came within 3 days of being in the tank, but they must have been no good, cause she ate them all about a week later. Then I removed the female for about 10-14 days, to try to settle aggression in the tank, put the female back. Didn't see her for much at all for the next week until she brought her fry to the front. By the first time I saw them, I don't think they were wrigglers anymore, but fry.

I received advice to try the frozen BBS on a couple of the apisto forums & have the brand that was recommended. I just keep watching & see what happens in there.

Cheers
