I have lots of different fish but my favorite to watch are: you guessed.. my angels. They are the pretties fish in my tank. One has beautiful mirror-reflective golden scales and both are so curious and "friendly" even at quarter size.

When I first owned them they would hide when I walked up the aquarium or put my finger on the glass. Now, as with my other fish, they expect to be fed when I walk up or when I touch the glass they are the first to swim over and watch my finger. Great fish... I can't wait until they are grown and even more graceful.

I think everyone has had experience with angels. I used to have a very large one, i didn't personally find them as interesting as other cichlids with the agressive, carnivour attitudes. Still nie fish though.

my dd's angel is a ham, cant walk past the tank without it coming up and following you around, , will follow your finger up and down the side of the tank, and so on. Definately not boring.

Im not really a chilid fan but I do love my angel. He isnt as active as he used to be since his mate died, but i have a rocking chair next to that tank and when im there he always comes over, to the side of the tank and kind of watched TV with me. when i get up he goes back to his business.

I personally would prefer a Black Lancer or Knifefish but Angels are nice fish, just when you think of Cichlids you think Oscars and big fish being aggresive, not a elegant Angel swimming peacefully around.

Aww that's so cute Theresa You've done well

I never really liked Angels myself, thought they were boring as well... until I kept them and found that they are one of the sweetest fish, and they have attitude, I can relate

When I first started keeping fish I passed on angels thinking they weren't exciting. My second tank was larger so I bought one, kind of as a remembrance of my dad who always kept angels when I was growing up. However many tanks later now I still have that angel, a friend for it, and a stunted rescue angel in another tank.

I don't know the sex of the first two. They're both ~4" long now and quite good friends. Never any signs of breeding so I'm guessing they're same sex. They're not speedy not agressive, but they aren't tank decorations either. Mine too will follow me around the room, they were also my first fish to recognize food containers and react They can be hand fed.

The little rescue angel, funny little guy/girl. Poor thing started life in a small unheated, unfiltered betta bowl ('it was pretty and not bigger than those betta fish') I've had it for a year now and it's maybe 1" long. It lives in a rather busy community tank with platies, gold barbs, yo-yos, a two keyholes...the angel seems to think it's a platy and pals around with them. Really funny to watch, especially when they mess around in the bubble wall or play their tag/hide & seek game they have going in the hornwort

Here's Little Guy playing with his reflection, another favorite game

Well, I suppose every fish is different. Just for the record, I did say "interspecific" interaction, as in, of the same species. In groups of more than, oh, say five, they tend to just sit around, fanning the water until feeding time. Don't get me wrong, I still love angels (lest I wouldn't have bred and raised them in such great numbers over the course of my entire experience with this aquahobby), but I find them rather mind numbing to look at. I feel the same way about loricariids as well.

I disagree with you Cup-O-Noodles,
I found my female angel, prior to getting her mate, was just as interactive as she is now. In fact, she was possibly more interactive with us humans because she had noone else to interact with. She always rushes the tank to say hello, and she does a funny "dance" at the tank when my boyfriend walks up, she loves him!
I think Angelfish are every bit as interesting, friendly, and personable as any other Cichlid, and they are among my absolute favorites!

IME, they don't interact much save paired fish. Other interspecific commotion is usually limited to aggression.

I have 4 (2 pairs) in my 6ft and the last thing I'd call them is "boring"
They're always on the go and very people friendly

I dont mean to start a fight here but is it just me or are angel fish the most boring cichlid? They just sit there and they dont have the curiousness of other cichlids.

*shrug* It depends on what you find interesting. It takes some tradeoffs to get a "perfect" fish for you. Some like the really gorgeous long finned angels, and don't mind that they don't show some of the "wetpet" characteristics of an oscar. Some like the big, puppy-of-the-fish-world oscars, and don't mind that they are pretty homely.

I find my angels very interesting. Especially as they get older, they do have cichlid personalities. For example, A month or 2 ago I had 3 large, adult angels in my 55. Two were koi angels, and they were a mated pair. The male koi only mated with the female koi. However, the male would only hang out with a female german blue blusher in there. Together they would pick on the female koi a bit. All was forgiven between the two kois, though, and they bred at least 3 times. When this happened, the blue female would get jealous. As the kois were cleaning the filter intake tube and leaves on one side of the tank, the blue female would stay on the other end and clean HER leaf. It was really funny, as if she was trying to show the male that SHE could clean leaves too, and that she didn't need him to fulfill her "needs".

They shade the glow of it with their mossy-misty costumes,
They wear masks of silk, porcelain, brass, and silver,
So as not to mislead with their own, ordinary faces.

They're pretty, I'll give you that. But they aren't very interesting fish to own.

again, different fishes have differnt personallities. some fish are more active and within the fish speices. for example some angels are more active and some aren't. i had a pair of angels alone in a tank and they seem very active and friendly.

My angel follows me around the tank and is very very curious. I thought I wouldn't like him as much as I did, but he has totally won me over. So I have to disagree with you.

My vote for most boring fish goes to my Bala Shark...he's not very bright...

Angels aren't boring. Mine are on the go all the time & they look great in a tank full of Tetra's & Corydoras.
I know other cichids are more fast & maybe more colourful, but Angels have a way of their own & don't mess with the when breeding.
