440 gallon pond | |
lookin_around Hobbyist Posts: 123 Kudos: 44 Votes: 16 Registered: 31-Aug-2004 | ok, my dad has this plastic tub at his shop that is just sitting on top of his office w/ no purpose, so I thought I'd make it into a pond it is round and is 5 ft in diameter and 3 ft deep....he also has some 55 gallon tubs that I think I could use as a filter...I have never done a pond b4 let alone a large tank, I had done tons and tons of research on gettin a large tank, but got away from it a few months ago. I live in the valley in cali, about 2 hours north of LA, in the summer it can get to 110 outside, and in the winter it gets down to about 40....so I was wondering if this would be able to be built into a pond, and what type of fish could live in the harsh conditions of our weather...it will be an outdoor pond Thnx for the help, Glenn |

If it's been around any chemicals or anything like that you may want to not use it. Pond liner may be enough to protect but depending on how wide of liner you'd get I'd worry that there might be some seepage if there had been contact with chems. Worst case you could always get the hole dug then decide to just use pond liner instead....and hey might as well make it a 4,000 gallon pond . With that sized pond you could easily do common or fancy goldfish (they might not like the cooler weather), stay away from koi though. Depending how long the temps stay in the 40s you may be able to get away with some barbs. ^_^ [font color="#999999] Let's unwrite these pages and replace them with our own words We live on front porches and swing life away We get by just fine here on minimum wage If love is a labor I'll slave 'til the end I won't cross these streets until you hold my hand" Let's unwrite these pages and replace them with our own words We live on front porches and swing life away We get by just fine here on minimum wage If love is a labor I'll slave 'til the end I won't cross these streets until you hold my hand" |
