These are my choices.

I have a fibreglass boat, approx 40 years old. My father's first watercraft, and I'd personally prefer to resore tis, but I'm a little concerned about its seaworthiness, So i thought i could convert it into a pond of sorts...If i can fight my brother off... silly fishermen!

I was thinking of having it in a sort of skeleton frame or sling, up off the ground, not sunk in. Is this possible?

Option 2, and the more likely one, is using an old fibreglass cafe umbrella. It was the top of a birdcage at my grandmother's house, but it is now in the pile for the tip. It has a few small holes where it was screwed into the birdcage frame. these could be filled or i could just throw a liner over it.

It is shallow, but i thought it would be perfect for raising bettas in the summer and maybe feeding up some promising fantail feeder goldies over winter for return to the petshop as pretty fantails in need of a real home

Its octagonal, So i'd like a bit of decking around the edges to complement the shape. This should also stop jumpers and allow for bird netting to be placed easily.

Can you see any issues I haven't thought of?

Anyone used fibreglass objects before? Any specific prep?

How would you filter something so shallow?

Hmmm....well with the skeleton frame / sling idea it'd have to be fairly strong...any estimates on how many gallons the boat would hold?

Don't know about the safe factor for the fiberglass, wouldn't it just be easier to use some pond liner on it just in case?
If you do use it for fan tails, make sure you feed them up well maybe that way they'll be too big for people to stick in bowls .

that is my dastardly plan!

I'm probably just going to use livebearers or something, but i'd love goldies, even if its just for a few months a year
