Hi

I have a cold water tank that attracts a large about of algae, due to the UV lights I use. Can anyone please recommend an algae eating breed of fish that would reduce the amount of algae in my tank? I especially like sucking loaches but are they just for tropical tanks?

Any advice would be very much appreciated

Thanks
Carl

What size tank, what other fish do you have in it, and what temp range?

Snails are always good @dealing with algae....MTS or malaysian trumpet snails will do quite well in a planted tank as they won't harm any of your plants.

I haven't found anything you could add to a tank that has been able to compete for algae removal and come up trumps against the scourer at the end of my arm.

I had snails but still had to keep the algae at bay...

Hope others can come up with some solutions for you.

Good luck

Hillstream Loaches- smallish, slow growers, great algae eaters. You could probably do 2 in a 10g tank, 4 in a 20 etc.
They love cooler water. Beautiful fish too.
I have some nice pictures if you are interested.

Sure thing:
Here they are.
I think this hillstream loach is about 1 year old, maybe slightly less by a month or two, or slightly older by a month of two, and it is about 1 1/2 inch long (smaller than a female guppy is for sure).
