You have to do water changes in a pond? Weekly? How many gallons is your pond?

Keep plants. Since ponds are outdoors, plant keeping has gotta be easy (in comparison to aquariums). Besides that, vaccum the pond out and keep pond filter clean (careful not to destroy bacteria colony).

Here's more on it from out FAQ. http://www.fishprofiles.net/faq/begin-cycling.asp

How stocked is your pond? How big is each fish and how many gallons is the pond? Is it more deep than wide or wider than it is deeper? Rough dimensions are helpful.

Here's the nitrogen cycle:
-Fish waste, urine, rotting food or plants form ammonia, then in your filter sponges and gravel, bacteria will grow and decompose the ammonia into nitrite (still toxic to fish but not as much as ammonia), then new bacteria grows and they change the nitrite into nitrate (only toxic at really high levels). You gotta cycle your pond first, then once it's completed (no ammonia or nitrite, nitrate shows) you do small water changes (weekly, daily, whenever, of different sizes, whichever your prefer. I do weekly 25-30% water changes).
