Fish for my pond. | |
gauntlet Enthusiast Posts: 240 Kudos: 277 Votes: 8 Registered: 21-Jan-2004 | I have a pond that is about 152g. Gets little light in the morning and afternoon. Stays about 60-70 degrees. What can I stock it with? It's only 8" deep. |

I would go with the rosy red minnow, about 12 of them. They are definitely hardy, light colored (easier to catch in the fall), and will love the mosquito larvae they will find in the pond. BTW, the price is right; usually about 12 for a dollar. They also will do nicely in a tank inside when you bring them in for the cold weather! |

Guppies, white clouds, and rosies are small enough to avoid being eaten in most cases (unless you've got a bullfrog in the pond). |

Here in Arizona these guys live in waters as shallow as 2 inches. The temperature swings in such a shallow pond would be very hard, if not lethal on goldies. I've never had a problem with birds going after my killis and minnows. The birds come to drink and bathe, but not to eat. |
