I have a pond that is about 152g. Gets little light in the morning and afternoon. Stays about 60-70 degrees. What can I stock it with? It's only 8" deep.

only 8'' ? i hope you dont plan to keep the fish outside in there for the winter. that will freeze solid! (depending on where you live)
i would say maybe some mosquito fish or something like that but no goldies IMO!!!

Because the water is shallow, it will heat up and cool off more quickly than a deeper pond, so you'll need a hardy, tough fish. I would go with the rosy red minnow, about 12 of them. They are definitely hardy, light colored (easier to catch in the fall), and will love the mosquito larvae they will find in the pond. BTW, the price is right; usually about 12 for a dollar. They also will do nicely in a tank inside when you bring them in for the cold weather!

I always wonder, if you put small fish won't the birds eat them?

birds will try to eat any fish. This is why you may want to take some precautions to help prevent an attack.

IME, most birds that eat fish are larger, such as heron, and want to eat larger fish, such as goldfish and koi. Guppies, white clouds, and rosies are small enough to avoid being eaten in most cases (unless you've got a bullfrog in the pond).

If your pond stays 60-70 degrease year round, mosquito fish (killis) and/or mountain minnows would work quite well. Here in Arizona these guys live in waters as shallow as 2 inches. The temperature swings in such a shallow pond would be very hard, if not lethal on goldies. I've never had a problem with birds going after my killis and minnows. The birds come to drink and bathe, but not to eat.
