Thank you! "He" was only about a half inch long when I got him almost a year ago. I felt sorry for him stuffed in with all the other larger fish at the LFS. Would it be a telescopic even though the eyes don't protrude?

Nope, Ryukins just have normal eyes. The ones with the telescopic eyes are called Moores.
