Goldfish that keeps floating to the top | |
BeastKeeper Big Fish Posts: 444 Kudos: 389 Votes: 47 Registered: 27-Apr-2004 | my red & black oranda looks healthy but has trouble swimming. he swims for a little then he floats to the top. could he have taken in too much air? or is constipation? thnkx |

SheKoi Fish Addict Posts: 667 Kudos: 553 Votes: 4 Registered: 11-Feb-2004 | sounds like a swimbladder problem. there relly isn't a lot can be done for him. try feeding him shelled peas. use frozen peas that have defrosted as they have not nasties like tinned. also when feeding him flakes soak them for couple min first then put into tank, this stops the fish sucking in air when feeding off the surface. shekoi www.blooming-brilliant.co.uk |

Goldfish need alot of veggies in their diet, they help move things along (to put it politely ). I'd suggest the peas as well, and reduce or eliminate the ammount of dry food you're feeding altogether. If it's constipation the peas will help correct it, if it's a serious swim bladder problem, it's likely you'll lose the fish. ^_^ |

Babelfish Administrator Small Fry with Ketchup Posts: 6833 Kudos: 8324 Votes: 1570 Registered: 17-Apr-2003 | Spinnach, broccoli most of your leafy greens...I just find peas the easiest....it's important that goldfish not only have plenty of room surface area of a 75 gallon minimum, but also that they get lots of veggie matter in their diet to help prevent stunting which leads to problms such as what yours have. ^_^ |
