I'm missing a very large goldfish, and I know it wasn't a raccoon because my pond is netted. But I did spy a very large bullfrog today, who I'm guessing is the culprit. I think there were a couple spots where the netting is loose and he could have squeezed in.

The pond is 500 gallons, though, so he won't be easy to catch.

Any suggestions (before he decimates the rest of my fish)?

We got him!

My husband and stepson went out last night with a flashlight, and when the frog poked his head up, my husband put the beam right on him. He froze, and my stepson netted him.

He was one big sucker, and his stomach was HUGE -- the result, I'm sure, of his recent fish dinner.

My stepson (a marine biologist) was vaguely interested in dissecting him to see what his stomach contents were, but in the end, we opted on the side of kindness. (After all, the frog was just doing what came naturally.) We put him in a cooler and this morning, my husband took him to an irrigation pond on a local farm (with permission, of course) and set him free.

So all's well that ends well, I guess ... but I still feel bad about my fish.

Yes, but your good Karma in giving him a great home will bring you lots of great fish! Congrats on the catch!
