well i dont filter my 76 gallon but i wish i did i have to do lots of water changes for when it rains, lots and lots of dirt gets into it still cant figure how to keep it out, but if u realy weant to do lotst of water changes go rirght ahead, but if it "doesnt" need filtration it is going to have to be HUGE like a thousand gallons i have heard and not many fish

alot more than 1,000g IMO. I have a 1,500g and i dont think i would be able to go without a filter! it would be a pain and costly to have to do water changes every week!
I sugguest just putting out the extra cash for a filter... its worth it!

Thanks for the replies, but this isn't something I'm going to do. I was just wondering.

Actually any size pond can be unfiltered. The real secret for no filtration is stocking. You have a 100 gallon unfiltered pond and you'll only be able to have 1 or 2 goldfish and will need to do weekly or bi-weekly water changes.

I kept a 50 gallon water barrel with no filtration and swordtails in it. Have fun whatever you do decide to do. And seriously understock and commit yourself to those water changes.

it depends on your winters, to keep koi/goldfish orfes etc in cold winters the pond has to be over 4ft at one point. in tropical areas pond can be as little as 1ft. i've seen a koi pond in Jamaica that was only 6in in most places.
