How Much Salt to Add to Goldfish Tank? | |
Paulette Small Fry Posts: 10 Kudos: 14 Votes: 0 Registered: 06-Nov-2004 | How much salt should I add to a 6-gallon goldfish tank? I think I've got a case of velvet and several folks have recommended adding salt to help get rid of it. I would also appreciate recommendations for meds for both velvet and ich. Thanks, Paulette |

Your fish are sick because your aquarium is over stocked and they are being poisoned with ammonia which is making them e to disease. If they are fancy (ball shaped) goldfish they need to be moved to a 55 gallon aquarium or larger and if they are common (torpedo shaped) goldfish they need to be moved to a 120+ gallon pond. Salt is not going to fix your problem. Edit: Only post in 1 place _please_. Last edited by john.stone at 28-Nov-2004 20:24 |

Common goldfish can reach over two feet, and fancy goldfish hit between six and nine inches. I think that more swimming room would help your fish a lot. As for velvet, I think Pimafix is an effective treatment for that. There are many ich treatments around, and I think that Ich-Away works okay. Before you treat your tank with any meds, I suggest doing a water change first. That will help to get rid of ammonia and whatnot, since you shouldn't change the water while treating a tank. |

Treating with meds @this point is like trying to put a bandaid on a severd limb. I'm pretty sure we've addressed the problems in your thread over in [link=water quality]http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/forums/Water%20Quality/50338.html" style="COLOR: #EB4288[/link] but incase you missed what we were trying to say....unless you move the fish to proper housing they will continue to suffer, be ill, and die. ^_^ [/font] |
