I just bought a 90 gal pond kit from Wallyworld-$70. bucks for the whole set up(even give ya the plastic frog that spits water)-cheaper than a filter for a 90 gal...
swapped out a cannister filter from an existing tank, & added my 4 (3-4inch) comets. Too many? If so, think they'll be ok for about 4-5 months like that? I'm building a house, and my boyfriend doesn't know it yet, but he's gonna be digging a big whole in the yard

goldfish need at least 30 gallons each, in a 90 gallon pond i'd say 2 goldies, just cause they grow so fast and large.

It really depends on the dimensions of the pond rather than the gallonage. Same thing with tanks, a 20 gallon Tall tank has alot less "space" than a 20 gallon Long.

For now they'll be okay, when your BF starts digging holes in the yard, make sure he digs it about 10X's bigger than you think it should be...you'll want it bigger soon enough anyway .

I have to agree with Babelfish, no matter how big you think you want the pond, once it is in it wont be big enough. And goldies like lots of swimming room.

I agree with the stocking limits given above, but you might be able to get away with it temporarily if you pay a lot of attention to water quality and don't overfeed. I had three 4-inch comets in my 100-gallon pond last year, and they did fine, but I'm much more comfortable with five in my 500 gallon this year (admittedly understocked, but I like it that way!)

Just buy your boyfriend a shovel and get those fish into a bigger pond asap.
