New Coldwater Tank | |
seventh_son_of_ed Hobbyist Posts: 87 Kudos: 77 Votes: 9 Registered: 09-Aug-2004 | Hi I'm Thinking to set up a cold water tank but i'm a bit afraid that the goldfish eat the plants I intent to get. Where can I find Profiles of Goldfish? Whish Goldfish are the stronger? more adaptable to adverse environments? and do you think they'll eat the plants totally? I don't mind that they get ripped tips but not the entire plants. Face up make your stand and realize your living in the golden Years |

The hardy goldfish, commons, that are sold as "feeders" are not tank fish . They're active swimmers and should reach a size of 2 feet and live 20+ years. Otherwise profiles can be found [link=here]http://www.fishprofiles.com/profiles/fw/category.asp?id=Cyprinids" style="COLOR: #EB4288[/link]. ^_^
It only hurts when I breathe" |

By the way are Cyprinids cold Water or they can live in cold water but prefer warmer waters? To me truely "cold" water is temps of 33-50F. Above that is cool water which many of the cyprinids can handle better than say tetras for example. Just because they can handle cooler water doesn't mean they should be kept without a heater as they're still susceptible to temperature fluctuations which can lead to ich. ^_^
It only hurts when I breathe" |

They may not have been edible, but the goldies tried to eat them anyways...:%) "I've got a great ambition to die of exhaustion rather than boredom." Thomas Carlyle |

The new young ones that I rescued nibbled @it but I don't think they were actually eating the plant...but any bits and pices that might have been stuck in it :%). Java ferns never been touched . ^_^
It only hurts when I breathe" |
