Okay noticed what really looked like wiskers on one of my goldfish rescues. I tried to get a pic by netting into a square sided jar but ...well ...that didnt work so well.

Heres's the best of this shoot, I'll try again if I can hunt down a larger container...Ignore floating stuff...I tried to calm it down with some pea (always worked on my other goldfish)

^_^

And head on...unfortunatly you cant see what I saw that looked like wiskers now>.<
Can they be retracted into the face like with danios ?

Currently he's only a few inches long (maybe 3" max) and is in a 50 gallon rubbermaid stock tank (footprint of a 75 gallon)...if he is a koi I wont be able to keep him, no outdoor electricity and my yard isnt' big enough for the 1K gallons :%)

One of my danios has these whisker type things too, but that looks like a goldfish.

Thats a goldfish. The body shape is definatley not a koi. Koi have a flatter back and a shorter body heighth.

Babel, I don't see anything whisker like on him, I think you're safe...he does look an awful lot like the comet I bought because my sister thought it was so cute not bad though 19 cent buy$6 credit a year later:%)heidi

Gotta say he sure does look like a goldfish which is a good thing. But then again we aren't seeing whiskers which in young koi sure are hard to see. The whiskers are not retractable but don't always show up on film. Attached is a picture of some of my baby koi from a few years back. The orange one top right in the pic is a koi even though his whiskers did not show up in the photo.

Thanks koi
Not retractable hmm? ...guess I was thinking they'd be like danios and not always show up. Maybe I was just seeing things ...although something like that is rather difficult to dream up !
I haven't got any othe flat sided containers that'd be good for photographing thru....although I might transfer him to the 20 for a day or so just to get a shot ....seems so cruel though after where he's been frolicing ....whatever the case he's got some nice white patterning above his forehead...and his tail is just .
