And setting fire to this life." |

How soon does it take your nitrates to rise 20 points in that tank now? I have two, 3-inchers in my 36 gallon bowfront, and keeping nitrates below 40 with 30-40% weekly changes is a chore. I've had to do them twice weekly. Nitrates are not as benign as first thought. At higher levels above 40 (and above 100 for sure) they dilate blood vessels. They are also tied to lower immunity. I would definitely do as many water changes as required to keep nitrates below 40ppm and preferrably below 20. I'd also add a good dose of BioSpira or other bacterial starter when he goes into the big tank. |

hca Fish Addict Posts: 783 Kudos: 434 Votes: 211 Registered: 06-Mar-2004 | As it is now the nitrates are about 10 before the weekly water change, 0 after. Its got a bunch( 50 + stems) of wisteria in there. Id have to go 2-3 weeks without a water change to get it to jump 20 points, If not longer. I dont feel I need to change the water weekly, as it is now, But i do it weekly ( and dose ferts for the plants) because if I didnt Id probably forget. Fishy is doing well- still no signs of illness, and the white poo is now gone- I dont know whats up with that, maybe the medicated food got whatever was causing it?? |

Cory_Di *Ultimate Fish Guru* Posts: 7953 Kudos: 2917 Votes: 25 Registered: 19-Dec-2002 | I do know that some bacterial infections can cause white poop - systemic infections. Not knowing his background, and as a precaution to your other fish, I'd do the round of anti-parasite med anyway after the anti-bacteria. It's only 3 days anyway. It will help clean him out. That's great on your nitrates. But, will Lucky make short work of your wisteria? I know they like plants and some they won't eat like hornwort, java fern and some other tough plants, but not sure about wisteria. YOu may wake up and find your entire crop gone and a bunch of green poop |

hca Fish Addict Posts: 783 Kudos: 434 Votes: 211 Registered: 06-Mar-2004 | That im not sure about, but I usually wake up to find 1/2 to 3/4 of it floating on the top of the tank .... silly dojos! I got a bit to decide where he will go...... and Ill still be doing the antiparasite, just to be sure! Hes doing well, eating like a piggy, active, begging for food everytime I walk by, good color, ect... we'll see how he does. |

Cory_Di *Ultimate Fish Guru* Posts: 7953 Kudos: 2917 Votes: 25 Registered: 19-Dec-2002 | Great idea! . Not many people think about fish treatment and end up trying to treat in the pond (not a good idea ). |

hca Fish Addict Posts: 783 Kudos: 434 Votes: 211 Registered: 06-Mar-2004 | THe 55 holds 2- 6 in dojo loaches, 7 danios( leapord and zebra), a bn pleco, and 2 blue gouramis. The only possibility of anything getting eaten by a goldy would be the danios, and as fast as they are, Im doubtful. |

hca Fish Addict Posts: 783 Kudos: 434 Votes: 211 Registered: 06-Mar-2004 | I still cant get a good pict of goldy- I put the 3 best ( which are awful) in my photobucket account along with picts of the 55 gal- They turned out fine, but cant get a good one of the goldy. Ill keep trying! the 55 just got a MAJOR pruning yestarda http://photobucket.com/albums/y8/Hollyca75/? Edit to say- Goldy is doing great, eating, swimming, begging every time he sees me, wagging his long tail saying PLEase cant I have a little more food...... No signs of any disease, medicating is over, The tub I got filled up today for him, He'll be getting some more room in about a week, if hess till doing so well. kitten Fish Guru Meow? Posts: 2266 Kudos: 2194 Votes: 19 Registered: 18-Nov-2003 | Wow... Goldy really doesn't like getting his pic taken, does he? *ponders* Have you tried changing lighting conditions or something like that? Or taking the picture at an angle to the glass? Seems weird that you get such a lovely picture of the 55 and blah pics of Goldy... ~Meow. Thus spoke the cat.~ |

hca Fish Addict Posts: 783 Kudos: 434 Votes: 211 Registered: 06-Mar-2004 | To get the picts of the 55 I had to get about 15 ft away from the tank- with the qt tank i cant get far enough away to keep the flash from making those yucky picts, and its a cheapo cam, cant turn the flash off.... |

hca Fish Addict Posts: 783 Kudos: 434 Votes: 211 Registered: 06-Mar-2004 | Ok I tried taking the pict at an angle, and covering the flash.... when at an angle- all i get is pure flash- cant see the goldy at all, when i cover the flash- all i get is black blurred with orange. The tank goldy is in is set up on a hutch in narrow hallway- just big enough to walk threw pass the hutch...so when taking a pict- im 2 ft away. Ive tried different lighting arrangements ( flash, covered flash, tank light on, off, hall light on, off...) its either black and a blur, or white and a blur..... Any other ideas?? When I get a chance- Im thinking about bagging him, and sticking the bag in the 55 to get a pict of him...... This is what i get for getting a *mart cheapo 10.00 camara..... |

Babelfish Administrator Small Fry with Ketchup Posts: 6833 Kudos: 8324 Votes: 1570 Registered: 17-Apr-2003 | Ugggg cheap cameras are a pest when it comes to shooting fish . Tank lights on, hall lights off...that reduces glare Get as much light inside the tank as possible, move a desk lamp or floor lamp over to shine down over the tank. Using screw in florescents is best but incandescents can work too. When covering the flash, be sure not to cover over the sensor that judges available light...thats' something I made a mistake with @first >.< Shooting from 2' away is actually the biggest problem I think you're having ....beg borrow or steal a digi with good macro . ^_^ [hr width='40%'] It only hurts when I breathe" |
