Swimming Pool Pond (Very real and possible) | |
greenmonkey51 Fish Master Posts: 1571 Kudos: 1692 Votes: 5 Registered: 28-Jan-2004 | I have tried to do an indoor pond for the last year (parents wouldn't budge). The time has come my dad is starting to budge on it and considering it. The pool is 7000g and has a doughboy power pak 2. The pump rates at about 1 1/2 hp or 7000gph. Im going to make a series of plastic strainers on the skimmer and intakes to prevent clogging. I will try to fit a 3ft long spray bar on the disharge to spread out the massive flow. Im going to have to acid wash the liner and clean everything out real good. This project is about 2 and a half weeks away from start. I will try to post pics as often as possible. One question though, is there any way to safely slow down the pump without burning it out? Also the pool is above ground is this a problem with freezing. I have a de-icer that keeps the surface open. To answer your question: You can slow down the output from your pump safely by just making a longer line. The farther distance it has to travel the slower the resulting outflow will be. Rise and run affect a pump's flow drastically. Koi edit: second question. Being above ground does make freezing an issue, but even worse than the freezing is the drastic temperature changes. Your pond will get much hotter and much colder than an in-ground body of water. Last edited by Koi Keeper at 10-May-2005 09:50 Empty chairs at empty tables, the room silent, forlorn. |

The hottest it ever got is 85 and that was for a week. I think that my 800g regular pond get hotter because its smaller, and the water runs through a shallow pond that heats it up. Also with water changes I can only use 55 degree water. I've never had a problem before but is this ok. Last edited by greenmonkey51 at 10-May-2005 10:40 |

I need to know that to know if that pond is good for year round. State will be enough. With 7000 gallons you should be ok for most of the country, what do you plan on putting in there, and why not install the liner in ground? What bothers me the most about this is that this is a temporary setup for fish who need to be thought about for permanent homes. I was just afraid that the pool chemicals would do something. I live in nebraska. The pool is almost 4ft deep. I can't dig down because the area its in is so compacted. This is sort of a temporary/permanet home. I will be trying to build a 3000g regular pond in a couple years. |
