Thinking about a 75 gallon... | |
T/A Mega Fish Posts: 942 Kudos: 1796 Registered: 20-Feb-2004 | I know most people suggest keeping Goldfish in a species only tank. And I know all the reasons for doing that. But, I'd really like to try some White Clouds with Goldfish. What I was thinking: a 75 gallon tank(48"x18"x21" ) set at 70F and filtered by two Penguin 330s and one Penguin 125. Stock would be 2 Ryukin Goldfish and 18 White Cloud Minnows. I would densly plant(silk) the back corners of the tank for White Cloud's safety. But the rest of the tank would be fairly bare for easy clean-up. Weekly water changes of at least 20% will be done. How would that stock be, to much, or could I have more minnows? Any other comments/suggests are welcome. Last edited by T/A at 12-Dec-2004 14:14 |

I generally go by the rule of having at least a 50 gallon tank, and then give each goldfish 10 gallons apeice (when they are young and small) So if you had 2 in a 75 gallon you would have no problems. The WCMM will love being in a large shoal (They shoal, not school, so don't be surprised if they don't school like some tetras do) You can also put danios in with goldfish. As long as they can't fit in the goldfish mouths and they like the same temperature, they should get along (meaning any fish, not just refereing to the WCMM and danios) |

Some time the goldy gets pesterd during feeding time when the danios swim around the goldi's mouth trying to snatch the food away. But in general... no worries keeping danios with goldies or even white clouds. |

The WCMM will enjoy the current and it will help the water flow in the tank. I'd also suggest getting the white clouds first, and making sure the goldies you get are as small as possible. While fancies are less likely to go after the WCs than say a commet (which btw shouldn't be in a 75 if anyone was asking ) I think by adding the WCs first you'll reduce the risk. Might want to look into some hardy live plants such as java fern, java moss and hornwort as well. And I agree with tryst, goldfish and bettas should NOT be in the same tank. ^_^ Current [link=Contest Rules]http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/forums/Aquascaping/44382.html?200412022138" style="COLOR: #EB4288[/link] |

T/A Mega Fish Posts: 942 Kudos: 1796 Registered: 20-Feb-2004 | Thanks for the replies, everyone. It sounds like I should be able to have a successful tank with this stock. I definitly want to keep the Goldfish one day. And I really enjoy seeing a large group of WCMMs. So this setup seems perfect to me. |

MegTheFish Banned Posts: 167 Votes: 1 Registered: 03-Aug-2004 | All my tanks are kept in the same room and the betta tanks don't have a heater, neither does the goldfish tank. So actually they are at the same temperature. I've always kept my bettas at this temp and have NEVER EVER had a problem with it. So don't accuse untill you know the facts. |

terranova Fish Master Posts: 1984 Kudos: 1889 Votes: 229 Registered: 09-Jul-2003 | bettas are considered tropical fish. They do fine in bowls without heaters *most* of the time. (in my case, it doesn't work out, because it gets too cold in my room at night, so all my boys get heaters...spoiled brats ) But the difference is goldies can be kept in ponds, whereas bettas cannot. A betta doesn't "fit" with a goldfish, it's not really the same biotype or anything. So Tryst wasn't wrong with what she said IMO anyway. *back on topic now* -Formerly known as the Ferretfish |

T/A Mega Fish Posts: 942 Kudos: 1796 Registered: 20-Feb-2004 | As of now, I'm still planning on going with my original thoughts. 2 Ryukin Goldfish and 18 White Cloud Minnows in a standard US 75 gallon tank. Although I wish I could do this setup in the next few months, it's just not possible. But, in a year or two this tank will come to life. |
