Winter- how do I prepare in SoCal? | |
wonder woman Fish Addict Posts: 545 Kudos: 279 Votes: 0 Registered: 07-Aug-2003 | I have an in-ground 550g koi/golfish pond, and I live in Southern California (Orange County). I also have a couple of livebearers in my pond (platies & swordtails). During the summer, the pond temp stayed around 70 degrees. My question is, what should I do for my pond/fish to prepare for winter here? It doesn't freeze, so do I need a heater? Should I catch and remove the livebearers? Will my pond fish hibernate (get lethargic and stop feeding)? Thanks in advance! |

I guess I'm just a little over-protective, and not sure what to expect (this is the pond's first winter). I love my koi, goldfish, and livebearers, and wouldn't want them to be in any danger. |
