Note to self; if I host a party tape down the lids so they can't be easily removed by 'curious' people.

This is going to sound so funny .. BUT...I have a big group of friends who have the same amout of brain as my fish do...
One party I had (few years ago) i had all of these brainless friends over lol and the desided to put DISH SOAP in my tank thank god I'm smarter then then it was bio-degradeable
dummys...
BUT I still had four days of cleaning bleaching and saving helpless fish and my friends also had 4 days,seeing I woke them up that morning with big glasses of cold water
I told them they had to help or there never comming to my partys again....they did after a few mins of trying to get out of it......
After that I then took a hell of alot more care into who came and where my fish were so i made a device lol

It is a plank of wood(which I took the time to cut out holes for heater and food for any future partys id have my board =p) and vice grips from the garage put the peice of wood on top then vice the wood to the tank..........I know this sounds stupid but you gotta do what you gotta do from saving them poor little things from stupid humans...

Needless to say my plan worked they got to lazy to take off the board and fiddle with the vice...even more funny being that there still holes cut out for food and heaters but I guess when your a stupid human who has been drinking you don't notice little things like that

Sorry if there is spelling all messed up i typed this fast and did not check over it =p

have fun and take care of your poor fish at partys so you dont end up paying hundreds of dollars for more fish or even worse a whole tank if you have the real roudy ones =p

I unfortuantely still have friends (fraternity boys of course) who think its funny to tap on the glass, and try to dump beer in the tank, and even want to use it to store their beer in!! Fortunately, i jsut smack them and they stop, I covered it up with a towel once and they were to drunk to even notice it was there!!

I had an afterhours party this summer and there was a woman that I didn't know who followed us back to my apt. I found out later that she fell onto my big buffet with my 29 on it and almost knocked it over. If she had, she would have been dragged out by her hair!

BeastKeeper, that's awful. Some people have no respect for anyones belongings and treat things like fish as toys. But then again when they put the caps in they were probably not exactly sober.

Except in some cases, like mine where there is an aquarium in every room of my apartment... except the bathroom, but i guess we cant throw a party in there

People suck. Have parties with mom and dad instead.

....naw, really. I'd suggest just keeping whatever room the aquariums are in off-limits.

I was working on the "steering lock" principle...too hard, move onto the next thing.

You are probably right though, good judge of human nature.

If you tape it up, it just gives the curious and bored ones something to break into

went to a party and i saw people putting beer bottle caps in the fish tank. there was atleast 20 caps in a 20usg gallons with some goldfish. will these caps effect the tank and the fish? plus there were some old caps in there with rust.

My friends fed my fish with angel fry once--that was about it.

iv thrown parties at my apartment n came back in n one tank was full of ice n beer no water left n they fed all my bettas i was raisen to my piranhas

things seem more interesting after alot of bouze
i lost a snow flake moray to my g/f throwing in pennies
salt water n copper is not good for sw fish

that was awful. I remember that. It was a work party or something, and nobody owned up to it.

there were a lot of $$ fish in there. I was just gobsmacked that people would have that little respect for life and property.

I remember that thread. Wonder where the owner was, or maybe the owner was the one that started putting the bottle caps in the tank (shudder)

I remember that thread also Babel, and it was 125 or so...Also one of my first thoughts other than those mentioned My goldies are inquisitive and go after anything new in the tank...the rough edges of caps can cut our hands, think of what it would do to the goldies little mouthes and bodies...

Yep the goldfish should never be in a 20 perioid....the rust is an issue...as is any alchohol that remained on the caps. A member lost an entire tank of fish due to alchohol poisoning. And by entire tank, I think I remember it being a 125. Someone @a party @their house found it amusing to dump something in the tank.

The goldfish shouldn't be in a 20g anyway... But yes the tops will rust and will probably make the water toxic... Who knows what they use to paint the tops of them...
