I have a 500-gallon pond with five goldfish (about 5 inches each). I don't have any plans to add more fish, but frogs have been moving in from the woods, and I'd estimate there are about 20 in there now -- plus, yesterday I noticed what must be at least 100 tadpoles.

Maybe this is a dumb question, but I've never read anything about the impact of frogs on the bioload of a pond.

Could I eventually end up "overstocked," thanks to all the amphibious additions?

You might want to consider relocating some of the frogs. considering you have 100 on the way :%). I would say that the frogs could pack a punch on the bioload, you might want to start thinking about more frequent water changes...

The problem with the frogs is that no matter how many I relocate, more show up to replace them. Last fall, we pulled out our 100-gallon pre-fab pond to replace it with the current 500-gallon liner pond, and found 14 frogs in it. (We transferred all of them to a larger pond on a friend's farm about 5 miles away, so I know the ones we have now aren't the same ones.)

Anyway, this is the first time I've had tadpoles, and there are zillions of them. I just don't know what I'm going to do about it -- there are way too many to catch.

Maybe I'll have to take the fish out if I start having bioload problems -- I've been considering a really large indoor tank for cichlids. I could always make it a 200-gallon goldie tank instead, and let the frogs fend for themselves outside!
