koi keeper Moderator Posts: 3203 Kudos: 2033 Votes: 240 Registered: 29-Dec-2001 | We hashed around on this one a few years back when I wrote the original goldfish profile and the answer is no there will not be additional profiles written to cover the variations found within this species. Most of the reason is because these are hobbyist created fish. Let me explain, Goldfish fancies and bubbles, telescopes, etc etc etc would never have made it in the wild. We have specifically bred our goldfish over hundreds of years to look the way they are now. These are mishapen freaks compared to how the species should truely look. They could not even survive in the wild and even have a very hard time surviving even just one normal winter out in an enthusiasts pond. How do we rationalize profiling man-created variations to a species? The species is still the same and the care is still the same. These fish are a bit more delicate in needs of temperature due to too much inbreeding and certain variations need spcial care of fluid filled sacs etc, but that is certainly not a norm for this species at all. Most goldfish are perfectly normal coldwater carps. I hope this helps you understand Koi Empty chairs at empty tables, the room silent, forlorn. |

I know when I first joined, I looked everywhere for more info on the differences between goldfish. Hoping that there must be a word for everything I mean... |
