can you please gives us some more information.

first size of fish and tank?
what the age of fish - best guess if don't know?
what filtration and lighting?

goldfish can change colour for a number of reasons.
1) if the fish is less then 3 years old it could be a natural colour change.
2) if the tank is too small and the water is not of good quality the fish can become stressed- this could result in a change.
3) lighting - not really sure about this one something to do with having the wrong spectum/ power can affect the fishes colour.

if he is swimming noramlly and eating i wouldn't worry to much.

I'm curious about Shekoi's third option.

I read that goldfishes can turn white when they stay in the dark too long. I've never seen or heard it actually happening, though.

I have read in many places that exposure to light will make your goldies colors more vibrant, not the opposite. For example, people who put their goldies in ponds for the summer notice imrpoved coloration, or if your black moor is fading to orange, increasing the lighting in your aquarium will help the black stay.

I've got one comet in my pond that started out brown and is now bright orange. I've got two that started out orange and black that are now white. This happened within their first three years.

I have goldfish as well and they also seem to change colour from dark orange to a whitish then to black. it looks strange but they still seem to be very active so i dont think there is a reason to be comcerned.
