I might make this idea real in my basement... I dont know.

a heated indoor pond
100" long
60" wide
30" tall
650 gallons

Some Ideas:

1. brackish with archer fish and scat. canopy with bug net around pond and branches over pond. If I put bugs in it when they landed on the branches the archer fish could shoot them down! that would be simply amazing to watch.

2. An arowana and some other large fish like some kind of catfish or a few pacu. maybe some freshwater rays. Would be very nice to watch these fish with enough room to swim around.

what do u guys think? possible? also any other ideas are welcome

That's a great idea & i think that the Fresh water Ray's are superb, even if difficult to see from above.

yeah I think I'm going to go with the aro and the rays. This should be bery interesting and suprisingly inexpensive. It shouldnt cost more than 400$ to build the pond.

How 'bout archerfish species? Or a big brackish comunity? That would be cool.. How high is your basement? Do you think you could get a mangrove tree thing? OOoOOoooOO!! or maybe.. I forgot

hmm i might be able to. I don't know if I'm going to do that though. I will look into it.

Yes I will need VERY good filtration and heating. I'm going to get a pond pump and a few powerful heaters.

You will also need to provide an additional source of dehumidification for the room. A dehumidifier works, and so does an extra A/C unit just for the basement, (removes water from the air). Either way a basement pond takes a lot of planning as the additional moisture in the air is very bad for growing toxic molds.

Yep I definately made the mistake of a basement pond in one of my houses, but it would have been alright if I had a proper dehumidifier in there from day 1.

Combined with the dehumidification that was mentioned, you may want to consider covering either part of the pond, or all of the pond part of the time :%)!.

I use a sheet of acrylic from homedepot over my "pond" to help cut down on moisture loss, I'm still adding a few gallons every few days.

As for stocking....the pacu IMO would just be boring if seen in that type of viewing environment. You'll want fish you can enjoy from the top down rather than from the side.

Its always a better idea to wait until you have everything you need in tip top shape before anything.

Its better to start off good then to start of crappy and always fixing.

FW rays are going to cost you lots. You should realistically aim for the first one.

"How much are they there?"

As you said; 70+ dollars Imagine, though, purchasing a near dozen good sized rays to take full advantage of the pond...
