So_Very_Sneaky Ultimate Fish Guru Posts: 3238 Kudos: 2272 Votes: 201 Registered: 10-Mar-2004 | Lets give her some exact information and then I will close with a picture of a fantail "bruce", perhaps you can have her read this, or print it out for her. Fancy Goldfish, Orandas, Lionheads, Black Moors, Fantails etc: are all fish that grow from 10-14 inches. They are fast growers, and require a 55 (fifty five) gallon tank for 1, then an additional 15 gallons of space per additional fish, for them to grow happy, healthy, and live out their life span. These fish can live 10-20 years in the right conditions. Comets: These fish are even larger, growing to around 18-28 inches, and only belong in a pond. They are called comets because of their fast swimming, I wouldnt keep one in a tank any less than 125 Gallons, and that is still pushing it, it would still have to be moved to a pond at some point. Stunting a fish causes the body on the outside to stop growing, and all the organs inside continue to grow. After a few months the fish dies because organs such as the heart, liver, and kidneys have grown too large and basically implode inside the fish. Again a Goldfish can live as much as 20 years, if not stunted. Finally, I will finish with a picture of the ever famous Bruce the Oranda (fantail), who is only about 2 years old at the time of this picture, and has not finished growing yet. LMuha Mega Fish Posts: 908 Kudos: 1144 Votes: 183 Registered: 17-Mar-2003 | You can tell her that I tried to keep two goldfish in a five-gallon tank years ago when I was in high school, and it's the reason I washed my hands of fishkeeping for the next quarter century. Those fish came down with every ailment a fish can get, and I'm sure they invented a few, too. The problem, as I now realize, is that the tank was just too small, and there was no way to maintain stable water quality. |
