i was looking in my lfs and i saw some nice pearl scales. now i was wondering are they suppose to be really fat or is that a health issue, as well as in 18 a good price these fish. i also think not sure but there color is calico so something.

Yep, they are supposed to be that fat. When I first got my pearlie I was concerned as well, but this is a fish that was literally bred to look like a golfball If they're larger than 4 inches or so, and good quality, yes that is a good price for them. I don't know if you've kept goldies, but they have some special requirements. Check out Goldfish Paradise.com!
