surprise baby + tank question | |
LMuha Mega Fish Posts: 908 Kudos: 1144 Votes: 183 Registered: 17-Mar-2003 | I quarantined some pond plants in a 10-gallon tank on my patio. After I transferred them to the pond, I started to empty the tank, but as I did, something caught my eye -- it was a lone fry! I'm assuming it's a goldfish (or less likely, a koi) that came in as an egg on one of the plants. I brought him inside, tank and all, and added an airstone but not a filter -- I'm afraid it would suck in all the floating algae and duckweed that the fry is feeding on. (I've tried giving him flake and freeze-dried foods, but he doesn't seem to have a clue what to do with them.) He seems happy enough, and he's growing -- he's now about a half-inch long. But I also have a 30-gallon, fully cycled tank that's about to become empty. Should I move him into that? Or just leave well enough alone for the time being? I eventually do plan to move him into the 30; he won't be anywhere near big enough to go in the pond this year. The only question is when to move him. The 30 is so big and he's so little that I'm afraid he'd get lost -- or at least that it would be much harder for me to keep track of him. All advice appreciated! |

Congrats by the way! I've heard of people feeding fry smushed up boiled egg, but i also hear thats pretty nasty and messy, but if he wont eat, you could try that, or they make a food specifically for fry called first bites. that works pretty good too.. Chelle *Chelle* I love the fishes cuz they're SOOO delicious... |

Way to go! Hope to see pics when he gets a little bigger if you can! Come Play Yahtzee With Me! http://games.atari.com Http://www.myleague.com/yahtgames |

Good luck with the little fella |
