I'm curious as to how many people do water changes in their ponds, and how often. Also, how they do them. (A pumps? Disconnecting the filter hose and letting the water run out?)

I take buckets out and use it to water my garden, fish water is a great natural fertilizer :%)

The difference between 'involvement' and 'commitment' is like an bacon and egg breakfast: the chicken was 'involved' - the pig was 'committed'."

LOL -- our pond has "natural" water changes in that it has an overflow drain at one end and the water is replenished by rainwater, both from direct rainfall IN the pond and a system that channels all water from the rain gutters into a little creek that runs into the pond. Of course it's big enough that trying to do anything else would be pretty difficult - last summer we did have a VERY dry spell and I ended up running our garden hose a few different days to try and at least add a bit of fresh water (it was getting stagnant and low) and WOW did that show on our next water bill, lol.

MJ got it right. If you don't have that luxury you should treat the pond as a tank and do small water change everyweek - i know i know, not everybody does or can and their pond survives.
