danios can stand cooler water. but i wouldn't add anything to yours, your tank is fully if not over stocked as it is.

goldfish are big waste produces and they grow huge and need lots of room

how many gallons is your tank? what type goldfish do you have?

Its a 50 gallon (uk) tank, with real plants and 2 standard H juwel filters with 1500 pumps in.

I wont be keeping the goldfish much longer as they are getting quite big and i know they need somewhere bigger(my neighbours pond)

I just wanted something a bit smaller that will zip about a bit in there

if the goldfish are moving on as they should really, i would wait until you move them then start a new tank.

the tank will already be cycled now so could either put in a heater and have a nice tropical tank, or stock the tank with small coldwater, like minnows/ white clouds/ loaches

If you add the heater, you won't have a nice tropical tank until the tank has re-cycled. The bacteria will die with the change in temp. so don't be so keen to restock immediately.

I tried fancytail guppies with goldfish but was not successful. I really think it's not the water temp but the water conditions. Even lost a few cories.

Corydoras are sensitive to temp. Admittedly they don't like high temps but they are not suitable for coldwater on a permanent basis.

If the tanks temperature is raised slowly(2*F a day) the bacteria should be fine. So the convertion to a tropical tank is possible, it will just take time.
If you do want to keep it a coldwater tank, white cloud minnows and zebra danios would be your best options. Both are small, zippy fish. Zebra danios can live in temperatures as low as 64*F. White cloud minnows can live in high 40*F temperatures.

You could put leopard danios in. I have leopard's, white cloud mountain minnows and gold white cloud mountain minnows.
