Hello fishy friends.
Yesterday I asked about a good way to stock my 10-gallon tank. I have had experience taking care of fish and fish tanks before, just never had to do it from scratch. I've gotten some feeders and am cycling it now (about 2 weeks to go and if I have good results on the water tests then I'm good to go).

Anyway, yesterday I mentioned fish that I'd helped take care of (my roomate really took care of the tank for the most part). A Fish Profiler told me that I could do well with a Dwarf Gourami, 4-6 dwarf cories, 6-10 ghost shrimp and 3 or 4 male charry barbs (if I making sure I was a stickler to keep the water "good" through monitoring and changing).

I read up on the cherry barbs today, and it says that they are scared of their own kind. Would it be a good idea to keep 3-4 male cherry barbs in a 10 gallon tank or what? I have a couple of plastic plants and a small non-cave-type-rock.

Any suggestions. I am really grateful to the two people who helped me out yesterday and would appreciate any thoughts anyone might have about the cherry barbs or other things about my tank. Thanks.

i have a small shoal of cherries in my comm tank. they never really school in the true sense. they cause zero problems. i have never heard of them being afraid of eachother. they always seem to be curious- exploring every nook and cranny at all levels of the tank.

a month or so ago, my ac quit on me. the temp in the house shot up to 114 deg (i am in southern az- it is close to hell in the summer) for 3 days. most of the cherries survived (the majority of the other species did not) i can personally vouch for their hardiness.

Cherry barbs do best (in my experience) in groups of 1 male/2 females if possible. If not, stick to just one, maybe two males...

I also would consider that stocking list a little much for that tank davey. I would go with the dwarf gourami and just the cories. That would be a rather stocked ten gallon, and I wouldn't push that stocking list up any for quite awhile, if ever...

Thank you both for your input. I'm still waiting for the tank to cycle. It's been about a week. Now my girlfriend says she sees some sort of problem with the tails of the feeder fish. I asked her about the previous use of the tank and she said she had some diseased fish in there. So, I guess we'll contact the shop we got the feeders from and let them know what's up. Any suggestions from anyone here would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe I just need to get a bigger tank, I don't know.

Well, I started off with a 10 gallon and now have 4 tanks (up to 100 gallons) in my one-bedroom apt, so I'm ALWAYS in favor of a bigger tank

On the other hand, I wouldn't use feeders to cycle with. I'd try to use danios of some sort or some other small schooling fish. Feeders are kept under the worst condiditions and therefore, very susceptible to disease...
