The rainbow may cause problems with the yo-yos, but the larger issue is that it's too big and too active for a 36 inch tank. IMO 48 inch tanks are the min for those guys. I've seen one that was roughly 7 inches long and shaped like a torpedo. They like room to swim, and when a fish that large decides to propel itself it needs room. I'd stick with the yo-yos, they're great fish

Try using the temptation factor. Throw something in the barbs adore like bloodworm or something in at one end, wait until the fish all go over there, and then chuck some chunky wafers in at the other end.Hopefully they will have sunk and the cories a chance to feed before the others leave their worm feeding.

Is it better to feed the sinking pellets after the lights go out? My barbs will still go after anything that goes into the tank. They steal algae flakes out of my fingers when I'm handfeeding the krib! I have thought about getting cories but the barbs have caused me to reconsider. I love them but they are greedy and rowdy!

feeding the cories by night probably won't make a difference... tiger barbs are pigs 24/7. feed the cories (and firemouth if you get one) sinking food. drop the entire piece without breaking it up so that the barbs don't catching it and swallow it before it hits the bottom.

feeding can be hard with the tigers, just feed the corys by night.

how is your firemouth feeding with the tigers around? I was thinking about geting one myself...

i've kept tiger barbs and cories together too, you should have NO problem with the barbs picking on ANYTHING you put in that tank if you have 10-12... if you have enough, they'll just play with eachother and leave everything else alone. as for the albinos and regs, they should school together, i have 5 regs and 1 alb in a 29 gallon and they all school together.

as for the cories, i'd be more worried about the firemouth than i would of the tiger barbs anyday. although they are a more peaceful cichlid, they are still territorial and corycats have a tendency to barge in on other fish's territories.

quick question, when you said to stay away from the corys, is that because of the barbs? or because of the larger fish? so far i have a scool of 9 barbs and 6 corys, and they dont mind eachother at all....the corys have yet to get picked on....

I just got a 38 gallon tank(36x12x20) And am think of making it a barb tank. I would like to have a firemouth in there as well. How many would you recommend and can I get half regular tigers and half albino or mossy tigers.

I was thinking

1- Firemouth cichlid
7- Tiger Barbs
7- Albino or mossy green tigers
6- panda cories

Thanks wings. I will have a large piece of bogwood and several stone cave areas with a bunch of plants. I was also looking at the rainbow shark. When it got larger would it mess with the yoyos.

Yoyo's get to be about 4 inches. I think you would probably be alright. Just make sure you have plenty of hinding spots for your yoyos.

Hey thanks again. If I cut down the schools to 6 each how does this sound..

1- Firemouth
10-12 Tiger Barbs(1/2regular and 1/2albino).
3-4 yoyo loaches

I always do regular water changes and keep up on the water quality. Would this stock work or do the yoyos get to big. I know they are alot smaller than the clowns but how big in a home tank do they get.

Sounds like you are on a pretty good track. I would cut your barbs down by maybe 1 or 2 per school. The reg. and the albino should school together.

I was worried about the corys would they get beat up. What would you suggest for the bottom level of the tank.
