Hi,
Since the rest of the fish are just fine, you could have
a couple of things to ponder.

First, it had medical problems and perhaps a coincidence.
Or, your shift in pH was too much for that fish.

When you add CO2 to a tank the pH always shifts, down.
How much of a shift, and how fast, depends upon how
aggressive you are in injecting the CO2.

What you should do before injecting CO2, is test your tank.
Know what your pH and KH is, determine what CO2 saturation
you want, and then begin injecting....slowly.

Take a couple of days to reach the new pH. Remember,
it is not necessarily the lower pH that will stress and
kill fish, it is the speed of the shift.

Just something to think about.

Frank

the only thing I can think of is that there was alot of CO2 at the top of the tank (like built up from the cover) and there was no air, and your gourami couldnt breath.

i have Oxg bubbles in the tank so there is lots in the water however the method i use to put in Co2 is the CO2 Fizz Factory which injects it into a Co2 holding chamber which is an upside down container

air

i hope that diagram helps. The gourmai went to the water level created by the containing of C02 then a few seconds later freaked
if that killed him how could anyone use this Co2 with out killing all of their top feeders?

Hi judz,

I am not an expert in CO2 injection and I have never used Jungle Labs Fizz Factory. I read on site that this tool is good for tanks up to 40G.

How big is your tank?
Did you follow all instructions, including any “before first use”, if applicable?
Is there a detailed explanation on how many tablets (or portion of one tablet) to add to a tank per gallon of water?

I assume that your dosage has something to do with it. What are your current PH and KH? If you don’t know them because you don’t have a test kit, please go out and get them as they are essential if you want to determine how much CO2 you have in your tank (well, if you don’t want to get the CO2 test solution anyway).

Ingo

PS: as I haven’t talked to you before, welcome to FP

ive called the lfs and the company it was that the fish went to the wrong water level (the co2 bubble) and that killed him
so i have to use a different way of getting Co2 in the tank

sounds peculiar. fish sometimes surface the bell of CO2, but then they realize it isn't air, and go away to find the real surface.
i've seen it several times.

anyway, the water contains oxygen, so it shouldn't suffocate that easily. to suffocate from breething CO2 the fish has to keep breething from the "fake" surface till death, which is really improbable, IMO.

i'd also bet on the swift change in pH to cause the fish to die. do you know how hard your water is? it will determine how large is the pH shift, and so you must take that into consideration.
