id say about 6 guppies and maybe some small corys like dainty corys, and highly planted and the color of the guppies will bring out the tank with the palnts, iv seen a 10g with guppies at my son's school that was nicly planted got my attention across the room with the colors of the guppies got me interested in looking at it.

Why is it that people always have multis suddenly available once I finally get around to changing the tank over

I should force Murphys law more often .

I seem to be leaning towards the guppies, from what their profile says they have a shorter life span, anyone have input in that department?

In My experience Babel, guppies seem to live about 2 years give or take.
I personally wouldnt do guppies.
I am never doing that again. I have had nothing
but problems with diseases, parasites, and other things
bad happening because of unhealthy guppies.
Beware- they are incredibly e to camallanus worms.
I have had 3 breakouts now in 3 years because of Guppies.

Not all guppy stocks are bad.

I got a few females and 1 male and eventually had a nice colony of guppies in my 20 gallon where I used to live.(actually, I had a few adults and 30 others ranging from jeuvy to new borns)

I never had problem with disease or parasites or anything though.

[edit] I don't seem to be able to spell correctly today -_-

I'd go with some cherry barbs and/or some harley rasboras. I love both of those....very fun to watch.

I recently aquired some platys that are very colorful and interesting. One male with two or three females would work, but you would have to find homes for the fry.
Danios are really too active for a ten gallon from my experience.
Harlies, a small school of cardinals, lemons, or cherry barbs would work too.

I am for adding more zebras to the tank. Try the spotted blue ones. They have long fins and are very fun to watch. A trio of Mollys or Plattys would also make a good addition, and your current zebras would keep down the population. Plus the "widdle fishies" are fun and cute to watch. Either way it would work ^_^

Not terribly colorful but I'll have multies and brevis available early spring

The brevis would prefer a sand substrate but with the multies gravel would be fine, they just need a bunch of shells to play around with.

yeaaaaaaaaaah no more danios thanks for the suggestion though . I dont actually suggest keeping zebras in a 10 as they're much too active.

Mollies and platies scare me so no go on those .

I dont trust smaller cories in that tank for a number of reasons....we can do coffee one morning if anyone wants to know my reasons .

seems to be guppies .

why not sparkling gouramies? about 18 month lifespan it seems (from shop, unsure how old they are by then) and they are cuuute!

tetras? maybe black neons? conchu blues?

oodles of shrimp?

I suppose wild bettas would be voted out but i'd go a pair of imbellis or mahachai.

hilstream loaches? they are sooo cool!

pygmy cories? small group, but very active for the workmates.

Killies? Oh, no hang on, not with those feet around

iron mike,
arguably here perhaps, but i believe tiger
barbs grow much much too large for a 10g tank.
Someone correct me if im wrong, but I think
T-Barbs are best suited for tanks at least 20g or
larger.

*Raises fishnet in salute to sneaky* Yep I'd not put tb's in anything smaller than a 20 long don't think I'd put them in a regular 20 ...they just need that swimming room :%) (or in their case their psyco room :%)).

calla some good ideas, I'll have to have a look around and see what's available to us. Not sure if I remember seeing some wild type bettas in one of the larger LFS's last time I was up...they might have been considering the price tag ....it's a work tank so I'd rather not put that much money in it and it has to look impressive to non fish people (*rolls eyes*).

And yes...platies and mollies scare me .

Boo the platies are going to get you!
But seriously, go with some lemons, serpaes, red eyes, head + tail lights, or some pearl danios.

without the other fish, 6-7 will add nice active look.

for better result try using all different colors. ranging from sunburst red, to half black back.
