I recently lost 4 fish, 3 of my platies died after an attack from my gourami, I had to remove the gourami because he was being so agresive and had got himself injured during a fight with the platies. So now I have a tank with only 3 cherry barbs and a snail in it. I was hoping to add a few more fish, I am think mabye 3-4 white clouds or mabye 1-2 apisto's. I am also planning on removing the snail as it eats all my java moss and is ugly. Current tank info is bellow. Any suggestions on fish or my ideas would be very helpful.

10 Gallon
Red Gravel
1.5 WPG Fluorescent tube
Average Temp. 75F 24C
PLANT
Java Moss/Vesicularia dubyana
FISH
3 Cherry Barbs(2 Female, 1 Male)/Puntius titteya
1 Giant Ramshorn snail/Marisa cornuarietis
FEEDING
1x daily Nutrafin Max Complete Flake Food
EQUITMENT
Filter: Millenium 1000 HOB
Heater: Radiant (I think 50 watts)
Water changes once per week
De-Clorinater:Aqua Plus

EDIT: when I refer to "remove" in the paragraph I mean return to the lfs.

White clouds may be ok for a 10g, not sure. They are pretty active from what I've heard...but also small. Someone else will have to comment on them.
You could have a school of neons or cardinals. Or a school of another small tetra. Or you could have some male guppies.

You can add a school of 6/8 small bodied Tetras.

White clouds are active, but would be fine in that tank.

bcwcat22,

First a question: where is the 4th platy?

You could add the fish that have been suggested above.

I don’t think Apistos are such a great choice, I would much rather put them in a larger tank (but they might be able to survive in a 10G).

How about some (5) of the smaller Cories for the bottom? And 2 more Barbs?

Sorry my wording was not good above, I only had 3 platies and all died after the gourami battle (I also think it may have been old age as they were 2 years old). My gourami went back to the lfs as I was going on vacation and could not provide proper care for his wound.

I dont know if cory's would work with my substrate as it is rather sharp.

Thank you for the ideas, anyone have a recomendation on a species of tetra?

Well, my reading wasn't any better as I now clearly see that you never talked about 4 Platies, sorry about that

About what tetra to get?

Well - how about none and Harlequin Rasboras instead? I would recommend 6 HR Espei (happen to have them myself ), they are hardier than tetras (I hide already from all the tetra fans) and just as pretty.

If it has to be tetras then smaller ones would be good, although I am shying away from recommending Neons these days (too many fatalities). All other small ones should be fine.

Personally I would do one of two things: keep the trio of cherries and add the school of white clouds, which would look good together. Or fill out the tank with just cherries, they look soooo nice in a planted tank

edit: both the WCMMs & cherries would do fine with a tank temp of 73-74°

Thank you info is always good. Im gonna look into getting either white clouds or the rasboras you mentioned.

Unfourtunatly I cant catch a break with this tank, today one of my cherry barbs got itself caught behind a rock during matienence and got some minor scale damage, I think shes ok but shes kinda reclusive now I added some stress reducer so hopefully she will recover. Also my male lost his breeding colors after my vacation, just having a bad month with this tank.

Thanks everyone!!

I thought White clouds where coldwater?
anyway I wouldnt suggest Neons or X-ray tetras as they are quite boring. (I keep them both) Cories are nice(I have peppered and they are amazing)

I believe WCMM can be either cold or tropical.

I think I am going to get 2 Florida flagfish and mabye an invert of some kind (crab?) or 4 red glo-fish.

A crab is probably not the best idea. Crabs NEED to have sufficient access to the air/surface, and they also like company (they are a social animal). Plus they NEED salt in their water (about 1 tsp per gallon H2O)in order to survive. It softens their exoskeleton so they can molt. I would stick with strictly fish. Crabs are really cool but require a special tank. Go with some more fish!

Fish CAN fly!
