I am going to restock my 10 gallon. I am not sure if I am breeding like in my other post. If I changed to cokld water could i have:
6 WCMM
6 glass shrimp
Would that be ok? what temperature can those fish live in? Another ideas for tropical is:
6 rosy barbs
3 otos
Or
1 betta
3 otos
6 black neons or glo-lights
Or
1 betta
6 corys
Would any of these work for a tropical set up?

If it is a cold water tank, go with the WCMMs. They really wouldn't need a heater, but I am not sure about glass shrimp. Are they a different species from ghost shrimp?

Black neons might nip the fins of the betta. I might go with one betta and a small schoal of corys.

I would also be concerned about the neons and betta together. I'd be afraid the betta would rip them up. I think the cories would be a good companion for a betta, though.

Rosy barbs... too big. I have ONE rosy barb (rescued him as a fry) and I'm concerned that when he grows up, my 20 gallon long won't be big enough. Right now, he's living in a 12 gallon and I don't think he has enough swimming space at perhaps half (or less) of his adult size. I've heard ranges of 2-6 inches for these guys! Eep! I had NO idea what kind of fish he was when I rescued him (thought perhaps a livebearer)...

I didn't mention coldwater 'cause I have no experience with it... Also, for the cory/betta setup, I'd suggest pandas... they're adorable!

For coldwater, you could to the WCMM, and maybe even some of the smaller hillies I think. I'd want somebody else to clarify that though...

A nice male betta with a shoal of smaller cories like pandas would be nice for a tropical tank.

You could also, depending on the bettas temperament, do ghost shrimpies and ADFs with 'em. ADFs are adorable; IME hard to get to eat though. Worth a shot...

HTH...

I was thinking the same thing- five or so WCMM and one hillstream loach, heavily filtered/powerhead, with light plantage--preferrably anubias.

Betta and ottos are a no. Bettas like little watermovement, ottos need more. Not to mention the temperature differences.

Big no on the rosies. IME they shouldnt' be in anything smaller than a 30 long (not sure what the dimensions are on a 20 long) They're very active fish and need the swimming room.

As for the corys, again, a 10 gives very little space for swimming. I'd stick with only the smallest of corys, often reported to be more delicate as well.

I ment Ghost shrimp not glass shrimp. I might get the betta with 6 corys but definitely not pandas since I have them in my other tank, maybe pygmy or julii. I can't get ADF here or hillstream loaches but could I have like:
6 WCMM
4 long finned zebra or leaopard danios
Would htis be ok? Or are the danios to nippy for white clouds?

Thanks so much!

I have danios and white clouds together in my 20, personally I think a 10 offers them too little swimming room as well. Adding a powerhead to increase water flow may help in the case of the danios and white clouds.

Babel -

Dimensions of a 20 long are hmm... 30 x 12 x 12 approximately. I know it's not big enough for Baby (my barb), but until I can move out of the 'rents house and get a bigger tank, it will have to do. He's just over an inch now, so... *shrugs*
