I was at the pet store today and i told the owner everything about my aquarium and i have 8neons 1otto and a bunch of plants.

There were babe platies which were about 1inch, i asked him if they could go well in a 10gallon and he said yes, so I got them, they seem fine, they were a little shy at the start.

so...What do you think should I return them, because i've seen amazing aquariums with 9 neons and a betta and some other fish so i thought mabey they will be ok?There both females so no babys.

I am interested in "Some other fish" What are these fish?

I personally think you "could" be over the safety limit

If you are refering to my Betta Tank some say I am pushing the limits. I would not do so unless I had an excelent filter suitable for far larger tank. There is also good airation, 3-4ins of 2-3mm substrate and plenty of plants and more to go in. I regually get my water tested and always perfect.

What you must remember there are actually no hard and fast rules as far as tanks go. These are guide lines only and with experience and knowledge you soon work out how far you can push the tank. Also remember I do a full and regular maintenaince every week and close to a 30% water change.

he is right, you can push the limits, but it means more work...often alot more work, lol. be prepared for set in stone, cannot miss ever, once a week water changes. you will have to moniter the conditions closely, and keep up with cleaning and maintanence. you will need to over filter and have lots of plants to get rid of the nastys in the water.

i dunno, i would say 2 plattys, mollys, swordtails, or other live bearers that get that size should be ALONE in a ten gallon, if properly cared for and they arent over crowded the suckers get big.

plus, sometimes plattys can get beat up and killed if the beta is agressive.

me? i would get a school of tetras and a beta. pretty, it works, looks awsome...and yet, no fish will die because of it, and also you dont have to be a little hermit on your tank...just my thoughts.

Oh i Have no Betta in there just 8neons 2platys(still small) and a otto.
Its been a week and the pet store owener said my water is excelent.

But one Of my platies is really aggresive, shes always biting the other platie when she want to, she dosent bug the neons but is always biting the other platy for no reason.
I put a vegtable tablet in there and evry time my smaller platy got to clse the bigger one whould chase her away, no damge done though.

"oh I have 2 females so i wont have any babies."

Females can store sperm, so even if you have all females there can be babies.

The stocking with the neons, oto, and platies seems a little high to me. Not to mention the babies you may find yourself with...

I say return the two girls for a male or two.

I'll do graffiti,
If you sing to me in French.

About pushing the limits...

I also have a 10g with 8 neons, a betta, and 2 ottos. I started falling behind (way behind) on water changes and gravel vac'ing and I learned my lesson. My crypts were dying and I had no idea why. I checked the water and my ammonia was 3ppm and nitrites were 0.25ppm. I have been doing daily water changes to get the ammonia down...but it is still there. Thankfully I only lost 1 fish (a neon) and I found it before I knew about the ammonia.

I would go with just the neons and the otto...just to be safe. You may keep up with water changes now, but there may be a time where you fall behind. I wouldn't risk it. I would have been so sad and angry if I lost all my fish because of not cleaning regularly.

Small tanks become unstable more often than big ones so you have to be careful. I am now in the process of moving my neons up to a 29g. Hopefully the will be happier there and the 10g will be stable with only 2 male bettas in a divided tank.

Just my story...thought I would share...

edit: Also..platies get kinda big...especially in a 10g tank with 9 other fish..so something to think about. When they are grown..the 10g would be good for just the 2 of them.
