I know a guy who said he wants to get rid of a 125 USG tank for cheap. He said whoever bought it would have to move it (sounds very heavy). So I'm thinking about getting it, but have no idea what to offer. I would like some opinions.

a) What would you offer for the tank?
b) What would you offer for the tank, filter & stand?
c) What would you put in the tank?

I have a birthday comming up. Last year I got my 55g. I'm loving it! This would probably be a slow project due to funds.

First things first it is going to be heavy!!! even empty!!!

Now with that said, I paid $399.00 before tax for my 125 gallon and solid oak (?) stand new, this also included the hood, but not the lights...

Depending on what type of filter they are running depends on how much I would offer with filtration...Keep in mind canisters are wonderful, and I'd run two of them on a 6ft tank (ok I do run 2 of them) And I know I paid $75 for each of my canisters (Eheim 2213, and Occeanic 4) and they were new, but I got really good deals on them I believe

As for what you want to put in themI know it will hold lots and lots of corriesand my metaes are very happy with all that roomthe fry are the proof of their happiness

Of course if I had another 125 gallon I'd go with Lake Malawi Cichlids in it...it would be an awesome size to put them in...

Then again my community tank with the school of 22 neons, 10 glowlights, 6 Harlequin Rasboras, 2 Emperor Tetras, 1 Male Guppy, and 1 I think female guppy, 1 Lucky the Betta, and my corries, and clownloaches, along with my 2 Albino BN makes for an awesome tank

It is always your decision, just don't go to the dark side with this tank

Well that's good to know. Some of the tanks I browsed online were around $400-$500 new. I know it had a canister filter by it, but I don't know what exactly is for sale. And I know it's going to be HEAVY!

I'm thinking cichlids for stock. I have a planted 55g (that needs work) right now. So I'll invest money in that if this doesn't pan out.

I hope it does work out...there is nothing like a new tank and the fun of planning it out...And it really would make a wonderful birthday giftDepending on what the stand is made out of I'd say offer them $200 and see what they say they would want for it...just my thoughts, and of course you have to go Cichlids, African
