Kribs are okay, can be very attractive but had one super, super aggressive female that has pushed me to vote for the rams in this case. Wish I had some rams... <wistful sigh> ~~~ My fish blow kisses at me all day long ~~~ |

Molly (LittleMousling) is one of our resident experts in that). I mean, how could you resist this: http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/forums/Photo%20Booth/53496.html?200502012048 You may or may not find them in fish stores, but there are lots of shellie people who will look to offload some fry and can send you some - sometimes free, if you pay shipping. I don't know about now while its so cold, but what's another month or two . There are several species, some more peaceful than others. Last edited by Cory_Di at 02-Feb-2005 21:11 |

My LFS has had some amazing kribs lately, if they have a really good breeding pair, though I think I'll go with that because then I could always have a line of turtle snacks with culling. |

A 15 gallon tank fluctuates easily, and rams stress in a hurry- if there's a change in quality and they don't die, it will take you a good week to get the color back into them, during which time they look fairly plain. Also, rams tend to poke at each other and play dominance games, to have two of them you need more room or you'll get some nasty fin nipping. I'de say throw a kribensis in with some tetras, and use plants and ornaments to create a little wall that extends maybe half way up the height of the tank, leaving the krib free to swim in and out of the top. The kribensis may bluf charge your tetras at worst, but my female has never eaten a cardinal or a neon. A bristlenose may be fun to have in there too- good for keeping algae down. On the side, DO NOT put two kribs together unless they're male and female, and you have a raising tank. If you put a male and female together, do not keep any other fish in the tank. bjk![]() Hobbyist Posts: 149 Kudos: 71 Votes: 0 Registered: 09-Oct-2003 ![]() | Thanks Peter, yah if I go in this direction it'll be planted for sure. A new direction I am leaning toward is a smart predatory fish. If this aquarium is too small the fish can be moved into a 55 Gallon in May.(When Goldfish go back outside). If I went this direction I was thinking an Oscar. Any other smart predatory fish?? |

bjk![]() Hobbyist Posts: 149 Kudos: 71 Votes: 0 Registered: 09-Oct-2003 ![]() | I was recently rewarded a 15 Gallon tall Aquarium with hood, light, heater, and wisper 30 powerfilter. I was wondering what I should put in it? Here are my thoughts, What are yours? Option 1: Pair of Rams, 6 glolites 6 neons Option 2: Kribenis how many? What else? |
bjk![]() Hobbyist Posts: 149 Kudos: 71 Votes: 0 Registered: 09-Oct-2003 ![]() | I was at petco(deathco) and saw some cool black neons and thought they would be a good fish to include, so I am up in the air on what fish to have Here is what I am thinking: 2 Blue Rams 6 Glolites 6 Black neons & now this is where it gets tricky: Cardinals, Neons, or Cories, any others? |

Cardinals or glolights for a bunch of color in the tank, or black neons so the rams' coloring would stand out. Then either very small (pygmy, habrosus) cories or a trio of kuhli loaches. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ There is water at the bottom of the ocean |

crube![]() Small Fry Posts: 9 Kudos: 12 Votes: 0 Registered: 16-Jan-2005 | It's been my experience that h&t light tetras are tougher than cards. Could be me tho. I agree on the kribs - they can be nasty.... IMO German Blue rams are more colorfula nd interesting than bolivians, but the bolivans tend to be more hearty.... |
bjk![]() Hobbyist Posts: 149 Kudos: 71 Votes: 0 Registered: 09-Oct-2003 ![]() | I am not sure what type of rams, I like blue and bolivian, I guess it is just what my LFS has in stock. For tetra's I am also interested in head and tail lights, and cardinals. But I figured I could only have one school. What do you think? |

It includes bottom fish, and schooling fish that will take up the middle of the tank. I'm not a really big fan of kribs, especially since breeding pairs sometimes turn nasty. I like the idea of having rams, what kind are you interested in? And, are there any other tetra species that you're considering? |
