This rule especially does not apply to larger fish such as big cichlids that demand to have their own territory. But with the fish that you are planning on keeping if you do water changes of 25% once a week and you have good filtration you should be fine going over the stocking limit a little just be careful that you dont overstock the tanks or else your ammonia will hit the roof, your ph will dive and many other things will get messed up. Good Luck! |

A 29 gallon is a tall tank, a 30 gallon is a long low tank. Only one gallon difference but the surface area difference is signifigant and therefore the two tanks can have vastly different stock. Personally the tank seems quite stocked to me, I certanly wouldn't add anymore . However some of your fish are light waste producers, others are heavy waste producers (one of the reasons the 1" per rule is so difficult to follow). Filtration should be 7-10X's per hour minimum. NitrAtes will depend partially on your maintence routine, and the plant consumption. However nitrAtes arent the only cause of stunting in fish.Welcome to the site stick around we'll get you addicted. ^_^ [hr width='40%'] The life, the love, You die to heal.
