I know, I know. This is not the best tank for much of anything as the height is too much and the surface is minimal, but when I was at one of the local second hand stores, I found this 20 gallon hexagon, with stand, heater, top, light & filters all for only $20 I just couldn't pass it up. I've already tested it for leakage and so far so good.

What do you think for stocking it

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Jim

okay here it goes..

2x rams
6x tetra's
3x ottos

I think this *might* work, but you should wait & see what other people think

Can you tell us what you like and then we can give you better answers. Off the top of my head maybe a female betta tank.

That size would make a perfect Betta tank or very heaverly planted with Java Fern and as many as possible Cardnal Tetras.

I like Keith's idea of a heavily planted tank...I'd go with either the cardinals or harlequin rasboras.

Maybe a small Asian biotope: cherry barbs, dwarf gourami, a few kuhli loaches?

You could try for a female betta tank, very nice if successful. Sometimes it doesn't work out though depending on the personalities of the girls.

edit: congrats on the find, you really couldn't pass that by for $20

Thank's for all the input, many good ideas

I do know that I would like to plant it, and figure I would have to use low light plants such as java ferns as this type of tank is limited on the lighting. Any suggestions there

I suppose I could leave the top open or just place a piece of plexi-glass cut to fit and mount some type of overhead light above the tank. The only problem with an open top tank is the potential for fish escapes

As for the fish types, I'm pretty open to any suggestions, so if anyone else has some ideas let me know.
