Well that is completely up to you! What do you like.

By the way, this is a dangerous post. Every member on this site is going to be posting here giving you they're dream tanks. It's what they live for!

....I'll start
Something challenging like an Apistogramma tank. Maybe shellies. But I definitely suggest you pick out what YOU want. Go to the profiles and browse around. This is the most fun part of a fish tank. You should be the one who gets to enjoy it.

I don't know what you're aiming for as far as looks goes, but you can't go wrong with a nice school of corries That seems to be one of my starting points lately with my tanks except uh well, the one I am hoping to get this weekend...

The only exceptions would be: big mean ugly fish (cichlids, oscars, GT, etc; and salt water)

Usually I start with a school of tetras then add a centerpiece fish and a bottom fish. Unless something requiring a species tank catches my attention at the fish store.

Go to your LFS & see which fish you like most, write down the names & list them here & we'll help you choose which fish will fit better in your tank.

Big mean ugly fish!?!?!? Yeah I agree that most of them cant go in 20 gal. There are some cichlids that could go in a 20 gal though. The only thing is this really limits the number of fish you can have.

My question is........drum roll please! Is it a 20 high or long?

P.S.
Cichlids are cool fishes and they are not ugly!

Holy smokes, it looks like you did pick what you want! Although, tere is a very big problem with that.
Bichirs and peacock eels are both very larege fish. Granted they barely move, but they still deserve a relitively large tank - bigger than a 20 gallon. This is going to cause you some serious problems in the future. The cories are ok, but depending on their species, you might not be able to fit much else in there. You are going to have to buy more cories so you have a school of 6. Now, this is not a problem if the cories are hasboros or dwarves or pandas. They're small (1-2". But if you have common cories, the bronze type (or sometimes albino) you are stuck with 6x3" fish. This leaves you with very little room.

So, in other words, you need to return the eel and the bichir. The cories, you may or may not want to keep.
Please post back.

Don't apologize! You just have a little tweaking to do, nothing you can't fix.
